SIkh Wedding Photography & Cinematography at Gravesend
Gurjot and Mandeep married while the pandemic had brought much of the world to a standstill, and they chose a smaller celebration at Gravesend. They asked us for both photography and film. It was a Sikh wedding in its simplest and truest form. Mandeep was dressed by Gini Bhogal in a traditional ensemble designed by bibiLondon, and she moved through the corridors of Gravesend Sikh Temple, a building known for its architecture and its carved wood, as though they had been made for the occasion. Mandeep had lost her father before the wedding. We wanted him present in the pictures, so we photographed her mother helping her dress with his portrait in the background. The final portraits, taken at home, reminded us of the film Umrao Jaan. Gurjot wore red and navy, regal and assured. Both of them love cars: Mandeep her Mercedes, Gurjot his BMWs. In the end Gurjot drove to the Gurdwara in a BMW, while Mandeep's cousins booked the Bentley and the Ferraris that followed it. It rained. The couple made their entrance regardless, and the ceremony opened with the Ardas, the Sikh prayer that marks a beginning. The Gurdwara has three large prayer halls, and the ceremony was held in the main one, with its high ceilings, scripture on the walls, and stained glass windows made to recall a gurdwara in India. A small wedding, held with real grace. We were honoured to witness it.
